Impacted Teeth

What is an Impaction?
An Impaction is where a tooth fails to erupt or to erupt into its correct position (ectopically). This is caused by improper positioning of the tooth bud. Wisdom teeth are the most commonly impacted teeth; However, Canine teeth are also regularly impacted.

This problem should be corrected because it can:

  • Cause damage to adjacent teeth
  • Leave unwanted spaces
  • Make your smile less attractive
  • Make teeth function poorly

How is the problem corrected?
An Impacted tooth may be corrected by an Oral Surgeon, who would uncover the tooth. The tooth would then gradually be brought forward over several months through the use of Braces. Braces guide the impacted tooth into its correct position.
