What is a Plate?
Plates are used to retain teeth in their positions and in some cases to carry out either minor tooth movements and / or alter growth to correct bad bite.
How effective is a Plate?
A plate can be highly effective; however, they must be worn as instructed. Because they are removable appliances and are able to be taken out with ease, it can be tempting to take them out too much. This will cause your treatment take much longer than anticipated or even fail.
What are the types of Plates available?
Bonded Retainer – This is the most common retainer for the lower front teeth. It is glued to the back of the lower six front teeth and can be left permanently in place to ensure teeth do not move.
Clear Retainer – This is the most common retainer for the upper front teeth. It is worn primarily for sleeping to ensure teeth do not move.
Plate Retainer – This form of plate is still used often in either upper or lower arches from teeth to ensure teeth do not move.
Banded Retainer – Certain problems require this type of retainer. It is glued to the back of teeth and can be left permanently in place to ensure teeth do not move.s
