In order to start treatment:

  • Please have any necessary x-rays taken and forwarded to Dr Weir. At your consultation visit, Dr Weir will provide you with the necessary referral form for these x-rays.
  • Once we have received these x-rays we will call you to let you know the outcome and schedule your next appointment(s).

At the first appointment, usually we will take photographs and models of your teeth (“Starting Records”). We will give you a copy of these photos to keep and refer back to, so that you can see just how far your treatment has come! This visit will take 15 to 30 minutes and is often carried out by Dr Weir or our Dental Hygienist.

Records for Braces
Also at this visit we will often place separators (spacers) between some of your back teeth. Separators are small elastic rings placed between your back teeth to create a small space. This space is required to enable us to fit a metal band comfortably around your back teeth at the braces appointment.

Records for Invisalign / Clearsmile
For patients who choose Invisalign or Clearsmile, the initial records appointment involves the taking of preliminary models and photographs as above. These records are retained by us as a starting point for your treatment.

The next appointment for these appliances involves taking a second, more precise mould of your teeth which is then sent away to the manufacturer for the appliances to be constructed. This appointment is usually scheduled some 2 to 3 weeks after the initial records.
