TREATMENT TIME
The length of treatment depends upon the severity of the problem, the patient’s growth, and the level of co-operation. The total time required to complete treatment may exceed the estimate. Poor co-operation, poor oral hygiene, broken appliances and missed appointments can lengthen the treatment time and affect the quality of the result. Co-operation throughout treatment is your contribution to a pleasing appearance and good bite. Failure to co-operate may require us to change the goals of your treatment.
STERILISATION
Our team follow the Australian Dental Association guidelines for infection control in dentistry to provide our clients with high-quality, safe Orthodontic care. If you wish to know anything about our infection control procedures, please ask.
MOUTHGUARDS
It is strongly recommended that you obtain a special mouthguard if you play any form of sport which may result in injury to your teeth. Ask us if you wish us to provide the mouthguard as the braces are fitted.
ROOT SHORTENING
Some patients have susceptibility to shortening of the roots during Orthodontic treatment. It is nearly impossible to predict susceptibility. Usually this shortening does not have significant consequences, but on rare occasions it may become a threat to teeth involved.
JAW JOINTS
Some patients suffer from problems in the jaw joints, including; joint pain, clicking, headaches or ear ache. These problems may occur with or without Orthodontic treatment. Any of the above symptoms should be reported to us immediately. Stress is a major contributor to jaw joint disorders.
GENERAL HEALTH
General medical problems can affect orthodontic treatment. You should let us know of any changes to your medical health or any medication you may take for your health condition.
