Special care must be taken with foods eaten during treatment.

Sore Teeth
It is usual for teeth to become sore 6 to 8 hours after braces are put on, and for this discomfort to last 3 to 4 days. Nurofen or Panadol will relieve this discomfort. A soft diet is also advisable.

Sore Lips / Cheeks
Some irritation to lips and cheeks is likely in the initial stages of Orthodontic Treatment. If something is troubling you, place the wax we provide you on the offending area. If you do not have your wax with you, use wet cotton wool. Salty water (a tablespoon of salt to a glass of water) makes an excellent mouthrinse. If you develop any ulcers, use SM33, Kenalog or similar preparations from your chemist.

Breakages
If a bracket or a metal band comes loose, please call us to enable us to schedule time to repair the damage (and stop eating whatever caused the damage).

Lost Appliances
If a plate is lost or broken, contact us immediately so that we can organise the repair or replacement. There will be an additional charge for this.
